About the Artist

Established in the 1950s, I'm a Midwestern-born American visual artist, living and working in the region known as the Inter-Mountain West. My media of choice are watercolor, gouache, pen & ink, and graphite. While working in the studio is my preference, I'm equally comfortable working en plein air. My primary focus is contemporary impression/abstract landscape, urban sketching, and drawing. Inspiration for my landscape work continues to be influenced by several contemporary Scandinavian, British, and American artists.

 

Initial studio art education was at Missouri State University where I earned my bachelor's degree. Later, I earned a master's degree in media communication at Webster University-Saint Louis. Lastly, I completed my PhD in visual studies at Colorado State University-Fort Collins. Post-graduate courses in drawing and painting were completed at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Idaho State University.

 

Over the course of my career, I have worked in corporate advertising, military photojournalism and public relations, and finally, academia. I have held faculty posts at the Art Institute of Colorado, the University of Central Missouri, and lastly, Idaho State University. My scholarly/creative activities have resulted in numerous conference presentations in the US and abroad in Sweden, Cyprus, and Istanbul, Turkey. Exhibitions have been wide-ranging from LA to NYC, with numerous venues in between. This artistic journey has certainly been a magical carpet ride!
